Every burned town is tragic. But Newsom needs to lead with science, not sentimentality. This disaster will be a national tragedy regardless of what people say, as long as it proves our current system is flawed.
If you can’t handle the truth, you can’t handle the truth.
The truth is, in my eyes, we have the greatest chance of preventing another such disaster from ever happening. It means more to me than losing any of the people I care about.
I’m talking about a “green” solution to California’s water problem. A clean and safe solution. There are too many variables that cause the damage that causes fires. We have to learn about those variables. It’s the scientists in this case who are trying to get to the bottom of the problem. That’s why it’s critical to have a responsible government role in this case so that we can know the truth and do what is best for those affected.
That’s why Gavin has to play that role. He has to lead with compassion, with scientific principles and not emotion. Let’s face it, he’s going to have a tough time getting approval in his state, let alone federal approval. But he needs to take on this issue and he has to do everything he can to get approval from California’s politicians.
In other words, he needs to do everything he can to earn approval. Only then can he be sure that the truth will survive until he’s ready to announce his climate policies. If not, he’ll be opening himself up to criticism and accusations that he’s just pandering to the political right. Let’s take no for an answer, Gavin.
That is my pledge to you, and I will continue to do everything I can to get this right, for you, and for the country, and if need be, I will resign.
I will stay on as Secretary of State
I will remain on as the state’s governor
I will stay on as the Democratic governor of California
I will stay on as the Secretary of State of California as long as I can and as long as the Constitution allows.
I will continue to fight for the state of California to be on the right path for our country and our planet and for the United States to lead the world in solving the climate problem.
I’ll be watching all the news coming out of California, and I’ll be reading
