LOS ANGELES — The pop singer-songwriter said she was “shocked” to learn that the thief she had worked with for years had stolen her laptop, which contained material she had yet to release because she was “still working on it.”
The thief, a musician who had been hired to help Del Rey improve her songwriting, “just walked right up to me, took the computer away and walked away before I could say anything,” the 27-year-old said Thursday during a news conference at her office at the Regent in Burbank.
“I never suspected for a second that he was taking my laptop,” Del Rey said.
“I’m still struggling with the fact that someone would steal my laptop and then steal my work, my life’s work,” she said. “I just don’t feel comfortable. I just feel that it could have been avoided.”
A news release said the thief returned the laptop and its contents several hours later.
“After learning what he had done, I immediately did the right thing by the studio manager to return my laptop and its contents,” Del Rey said. “That is why it is in its place today.”
Del Rey said she is “deeply disappointed that he stole my laptop.”
