Endorsement: Hugo Soto-Martínez for Los Angeles City Council District 13
At the time of the California Primary, he was a member of the City Council from District 7. He was a founding member in 2003 of the Community Redevelopment Agency of Greater Los Angeles and was the chief architect of the community redevelopment plan which became Los Angeles’s master planning project in 2011. He served on the Los Angeles Planning Commission, the California Redevelopment Authority, and several boards. He was a candidate for Congress in 1992, losing in the Democratic primary with 26 percent of the vote, and for Congress in 1994, 2000, and 2012, losing in California’s 11th Congressional District primary with 31 percent of the vote. He currently works for the City of Los Angeles Department of Planning and Permitting, as a public policy advisor and campaign strategist. He has served as a Los Angeles County Supervisor since November 2011.
His opponent in November was Assemblyman Xavier Becerra, a Democrat from District 17 who is seeking his first full term in the California State Assembly. Becerra supports California’s comprehensive legalization of pot, and has pushed to open more cities up to legalization.

Hugo Soto-Martínez, California State Assembly
Hugo Soto-Martínez has been active in City Hall since 2006, when he was elected city attorney. He served as both Deputy Public Defender and City Attorney. In 2013, Mayor García appointed him to the State Assembly. He is running to represent District 1 in the upcoming November election. A Democrat, he was also a member of the California Republican Party prior to his political activism.
His opponent in November was Los Angeles City Councilman Gil Cedillo, a Democrat from District 20.
