Pompeo: ‘The most dangerous person in the world is Randi Weingarten’
‘I’m very concerned when it comes to the issues of copyright and intellectual property,’ Trump said. ‘It’s important that we have people who are very strong in these respects and who believe in them.’
The president has previously been critical of Weingarten for her opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act, legislation that would have imposed stricter punishment for those who infringe copyright.
‘We’ve had a lot of people that were very, very strong on IP because they believe that it’s so important to our economic growth and our business success and we’re going to help get that done, but I’m going to tell you I think it’s a very dangerous bill because, I mean, we’ve had a lot of people who are very strong on IP and it may not work to their benefit because it may have a devastating effect on our creativity,’ he continued.
‘I’m with the people that believe that what we need to do is take a look at it, and I think you have to take a look at the bill to make sure that we’re not really giving away too much to the Copyright Office, because we don’t want to give away too much to the Copyright Office.
‘I want to give these folks much more control, much more control over the Internet. Because if they have too much control, they’ll control the Internet. And, you know, by the way, I’m speaking to people that are very strong on IP,’ he added.
‘I also see how the internet is a big part of our country is being able to connect the world. So I’m very concerned when it comes to the issues of copyright and intellectual property. I think it is very important that we have people who are very strong in these respects and who believe in them. And these are people that believe in the First Amendment.’
