Serena Williams ‘paved the way’ for mothers to keep playing tennis, says Martina Navratilova
The former world No 1 says the mother of five now helps her son, now 11, with his tennis
London, March 8 (ANI): Martina Navratilova, regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, who is a mother to five children and an Olympic champion says the mother of five played a role in paving the way for all women to continue playing tennis.
She says the game is just as important to the mother of five as it is to her son and all children in general, adding that she loves tennis because it gives both genders the chance to excel and work hard when they play, which she sees as a message for other women.
Navratilova, who won 19 grand slam singles titles, said that a woman who has been playing tennis for 25-30 years and has beaten men on the biggest stages in the world, gives so much back to the sport.
She said: “I have a theory that a woman who is active because she is a tennis player is giving of her time and knowledge, and also giving to the sport.
“She is not just giving of her time, she gives of herself. The game is just as important to the mother of five as it is to the tennis player.
“It is such a rewarding, beautiful sport. It shows what a strong person she is. For that reason, I love tennis, as it gives both genders the chance to excel and work hard when they play.
“I would love to play with these women and see how they play and who they are.” (ANI)
